Do we both need an app, and do I need photos?

Neither. Two Cities is one link that opens in any browser — nothing to install on their phone or yours. The template has no photo slot at all: the night sky, the map, the two clocks and the counter are drawn by the page itself, so it works even if you have no picture of the two of you together.

How do I send it, and how does their answer reach me?

Fill in the names, your message, the date and the meeting point, then open the real page as a preview for free. Can I put our own two cities on the map, and what happens after the date?

Yes. You type both city names and pick a time zone for each, and the map, the route line and the two clocks all run from what you chose — so the page shows your local time next to theirs, minute by minute, including the hour that separates you. Leave them alone and the link keeps the example pair for its language, London and New York in English. Everything else is live too: the two dots move closer with every day, and once the date passes they merge into one point and the counter reads “We’re together”.
