How many photos does it take, and are they required?

Three — one for the lantern, one for the little boat, one for the jar of stars. They are optional: leave them out and the objects glow on their own with your notes inside. Give fewer than three and the ones you gave repeat around the planet, so two photos fill three objects. Nothing is installed on either side; the link opens in any phone browser.

Do they have to visit all three objects?

Yes, and that is the point of the format: the letter stays locked until all three lights are on, and the page says how many are left. It is a slow card by design — about a minute of turning and tapping before your words. If you want them to reach the message immediately, a simpler format serves you better.

What happens if I write nothing in the notes?

Each empty note falls back to your main letter, or to that photo’s caption if you gave one, so the planet is never blank — but three identical panels read as a mistake.
